April 30, 2016 A good logo can make a huge difference in how your business is perceived. Let’s face it – your logo is present on so much more than just your business card. From your website and social media pages to your staff shirts, perhaps vehicle wrap, outdoor signage and promotional products, your logo is the face of your company. As marketers and graphic designers, we’re often surprised how many small businesses don’t give their logo and branding identity much thought. So we thought we’d put together a few simple tips to help you brand your business. Personality – What is the personality of your business? Does your current logo reflect your company and its position in the marketplace? Are you the value leader? Do you offer up-scaled services? Examine your logo and tagline from the perspective of someone that doesn’t know you – is it meaningful? Colour – Bright and colourful can be bold; softer tones more sophisticated. There are studies on the psychology of colour and how different colours can create moods. Red = energetic and sexy; blue = professional or medical; green = organic, healthy. Consider how your logo colour augments your brand – does your colour help tell your brand storey? Font – Probably nothing impacts your identity more than the choice of font in your logo. There are so many font options but one needs to give careful consideration to how your font will function down the road. Is it clean and legible? How will it look on a sign from a distance? Will it be able to be used for embroidered products? Often the best logo’s feature a clean, simple, uncluttered look that conveys a strong brand personality. Good logo’s look great regardless of the use – whether it be on the side of your truck or building, on the web or your social media pages, embroidered on a golf shirt, silk screened on a t shirt, or printed on your business card. Take time to look at your company logo and branding – maybe it’s screaming for an overhaul!
